What is awareness?

What is the state of awareness?

In my experience I’ve encountered dozens of individuals who can’t figure out what or better how to define awareness, how to experience awareness.

I won’t do a copy/paste of what the dictionary defines it because many did and yet there is confusion and not knowing.

The state of awareness can not be faked, can not be experienced from another’s perspective but felt and manifested by the Self, by individual.

What is the state of awareness? They ask…

When you shut up and listen and see and feel and observe.

NOOOO! It can’t be that easy! They say

But it is! I say.

How to develop, how to experience this state?

Look at a glass of water, don’t analise, just look at it for at least 20 seconds without being distracted by other actions, thoughts, ideas…

When 20 seconds passed, now you look with the analytical mind which is processing the image, assigns a name “it is a glass of water” gives a visual description “it is glass” and “has water” …
Now, if you move away, you know you left the glass on the table right? You are aware of its  position, its water level, aware of the glass shape and color without even looking at it isn’t  it?

That’s being aware, it is a type of knowledge, a sense of perception so if you are aware of your surroundings you can’t say you have no idea what awareness is… “I have never experienced awareness”

Now, let’s jump a bit to the concept of awareness which includes various aspects of human cognition, perception, and understanding.

Awareness is closely related to consciousness, referring to the state of being aware of and able to think about one’s own existence, sensations, thoughts, and surroundings. It is the basic state of being awake and able to experience and interact with the world.

It involves the ability to perceive and recognize stimuli from the environment. This includes sensory awareness (e.g., seeing, hearing, smelling) and the cognitive processing of these sensory inputs.

Self-awareness is the recognition of oneself as an individual, distinct from others and the environment. Self-awareness includes understanding one’s own emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, as well as how they might be perceived by others.

Of course there are other levels of this state with various functionality which can enrich one’s experience depending on the context. For example the environmental as in close proximity awareness, social awareness, mindfulness, so on…

Situational awareness: This refers to being aware of what is happening around you in the present moment, particularly in relation to time and space. It involves understanding the context and anticipating potential outcomes or changes in the environment.
In this state we kind of “guess the imediate future” so to speak… based on previous experiences, filters and more.
If outside is raining and we go out in the rain… we will get all wet right? That’s Logic.
If outside is raining  and want to go out and while we open the door, our neighbor comes in and offers to lend their umbrella? That’s potentiality.
“I bet I can go outside and even if it is raining, I won’t get wet!” And you open the door and neighbor happens… That’s synchronicity

All these are states of awareness.
A sense of awareness is always running in the background even if you are not “conscious aware” of it. Sometimes manifests itself as intuition, a gut feeling, a push in a certain direction….

Social awareness: This involves being cognizant of the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors of others. It includes empathy, understanding social dynamics, and being able to navigate social interactions effectively.

Mindfulness: A state of active, open attention to the present. Being mindful means observing thoughts and feelings without judging them as good or bad. Mindfulness is often cultivated through practices like meditation.

Metacognition: Awareness of one’s own thought processes. This includes the ability to monitor and regulate one’s cognitive activities, such as planning, monitoring progress, and evaluating the effectiveness of different strategies.

Can the state of awareness be developed?
Yes. A deeper state of awareness can be achieved. A “deeper state” is not the best description because awareness is always expanding, it is an inclusion based process rather than a focused one.

Can we experience awareness within? How does it feel like?
Yes, awareness means expansion even if the environment is within. All awareness within becomes knowledge and conscious observations.
Awareness within can be physically and emotionally experienced in a conscious way.
Breath is one activity which we do it as an automatism, we breathe because it is our natural action to survive, but when we focus our attention for a few seconds and acknowledge how the lungs fill up and when we exhale the heat of our own breath comes out… that’s conscious awareness.

Think about a wonderful memory, a happy one, a moment in your life when you felt your heart beating loud in you chest, think how that image made you feel, what state was, how you reacted… that’s how you can create an emotion without an external condition… and in the same way unconditional love can be created within… no external motive, no external condition… and doing so in a controlled state is conscious awareness.

Now, because life is not all rainbows and unicorns, too much awareness can be harmful so “be aware” how you control yourself.
This side note is useful for those who can’t help themselves and escape their own fears.
If you feel paranoic, more awareness will increase that state of paranoia.
if you have some indigestion and you “practice to develop your inner awareness” then you might focus more on the manifestation of your indigestia and label it in a negative way because you are afraid something is wrong with you…
You have to understand that your body is “listening” to every command you give it, either in a conscious or unconscious way.

So don’t try to own your body but try to collaborate with it.
