Magic Sigils? Why and How…

How to design a sigil?
Is it hard, is it easy?
Does designing sigils require training?
Does this practice need a foundation, a belief system?

It is a complex material to wrap your head around not because it is difficult to understand but because it uses terms and some expressions which are more representative to shadow work, lightworkers domain but this could be a very strong example that magic and new age concepts are fitting and completing each other forming the big picture we all search to understand for ourselves.

First, how to design a sigil?
What is a sigil I would ask you? What is your understanding, your definition for a magic sigil?

No need for wikipedia definition because you will understand it better if you are the one answering and not a 3rd party answer.

A magic sigil is a visual representation of a desire, of an affirmation, of a construct to help you achieve something or activate a certain state.

Hmmm… my definition is different from wikipedia isn’t it?

What is magic in this case… if a sigils is a visual representation, a symbol for an idea, what does magic do within the construct?

Well, magic is the embodiment of concept which we start to rediscover under new definitions.

If magic (or magick how others tend to refer to it) was in the past regarded as a hidden practice because of the unfortunate historical events. These days, magic is more visible, more accepted, more present in our awareness.

To simplify a lot, magic is a science which involves working with natural energies and laws to form a technology.

Before giving a real answer to the main question… let’s complicate things a lot because people like complicated things, because simplicity is boring… so, within this idea let’s explore another interesting question “why magic doesn’t work (all the time)?”

Check out the store section or

Why my magic doesn’t work?

Because we need to accept the boundaries of the reality in which we live in.

In other words, we stop the magic from happening through our limited belief systems, transgenerational traumas, imposed beliefs and of course the lack of self strust.

Same goes for all similar questions like:

  • why my work didn’t manifest as desired?
  • why my sigil doesn’t work?
  • why my ritual failed?

Would you like to know why manifestation doesn’t work as you want?

Thoughts have energy, carry vibration. Positive thought (love) have a positive polarity and for the sake of the explanation let’s say 7.

Negative thought (hate for example) or thought with a negative polarity, (which is also an empowering energy) with a negative value. Let’s say -7

While we are in a blissfully positive state of mind and we send “love” to the Universe… we place ourselves somewhere up, in a high vibrational state right?!

Well, that state of being is also a interpreted as “location” (example I’m in the 9th cloud…happiness)…

Anyway… the Universe receives your message, your emanated energy, your vibe, your “love state of being” and what it does is to reply to you, to send a matching “message”, a matching vibration, a signature is sent back to you.

What you send to the Universe is received in a similar manner:

Universe: Look at this, this being focuses on this energy, it is something this being wants to experience, I’m sending more of this. The Universe might “think”…

And the result is … yes, the law of attraction

We focus on good, high/elevated feelings, high vibrational state, we receive the matching energy.

In magic (known by some practitioners) one might be familiar with Threefold Law, which is another interpretation of the Law of Attraction.

If we want to feel good but we focus on the lack of this state, we’ll “see” even more negative experiences generating low vibes. Same for money, abundance, love, so on…

We want more of those but the message received by the Universe is our frustration of not having all these material things, all the money, all the confort, all the abundance we seek to enjoy.

And you know what, we get bumped, we get disappointed, adding even more to our negative experience, and we generate even more negativity to the Universe.

And… (attention please….) we move from the vibrational location (let’s say 7) in a much lower location, experiencing a low vibration feeling with a negative polarity … “Why all bad things happen to me….?!”

Therefore, we moved our location, the Universe sent the matching vibration but didn’t reached us because we … yes, we moved .

We need to feel good, to send that powerful affirmation to the Universe with what we want BUT feeling as we already have all of it. And keep that feeling as much as possible because it is the “energetic location” of where we are… and yes, the matching message of the Universe will be able to find us.

My suggestion is simple: practice affirmations, practice awareness in the present moment, be aware of the things you think, be aware of the things you feel, the things you do, because that is how you direct your energy and focus to create your own reality.

So, what is magic? In simpler terms is a tool to help with manifestation, a type of technology which uses emotions, thought, imagination, a belief system, focus, will, connection with environment and self-determination.

Magic doesn’t limit itself to demonic or angelic aspects of the practice because it is more than these limitations. Magic is more inclusive and demons, angels and other forms of sentient entities are simply named energies in my book and none of them were ever depicted as what they truly represent because we had no library for that, simply putted we were not evolved enough to even understand their true nature.

So, if I defined my own understanding of what magic is let’s dive into the idea of “how magic works”… I promise you a less complicated perspective.
Magic works with help of these three states: Awareness, Trust or Belief and Focus.

Awareness helps me put into perspective what I want to achieve, the emotional state of that achievement being fulfilled and of course the effects.

Trust or Belief are powerful enough tools but a more powerful one is Knowing. It is hard to use the Knowing without the actual knowledge behind because this state has no doubts, no questions is based on what we define as fact and not wishful thinking.

Trusting state is powerful because we invest energy into an idea with hopes (among other energies) that this idea will generate the desired outcome so the more we trust ourselves the more we self-empower ourselves. Trust your intuition, trust your experience, trust your gut feeling…

Belief is also a powerful tool and sometimes mistaken with Trust but belief state generates the energy of investing energy in something without projecting other outcome but the one we prefer. A true believer doesn’t need to know, doesn’t need to trust, it puts that faith without any doubts.

Focus is a state which binds all the other energies. Emotional energy, desire energy, will energy into a focal point, into a new definition which some can define it as a ritual, a magic sigil, a spell or whatever name one uses.

All have negative aspects so hold your horses.
Trust can generate disapointment because when we trust in a certain outcome and that outcome does not manifest we are disappointed.
Blind Belief and belief without a doubt, without logic and Knowing has negative aspects in its manifestations like fanatic behavior for example.

Real magic requires only these 3 states mentioned above and nothing more.

Knowledge is obtained from experience of manifested magic so Knowing precedes Knowledge … why? Because there are no mistakes in the Universe.

Again, back to the first question, how to design a sigil?

In a sense, we don’t design the magic sigil we kind of do a construction, an interpretation of our feelings, channeled emotions, desires, empowered by a belief, a level of trust and of course the stylized concept of this entire construct focused into a visual symbol.

In other words, we channel and focus our state of being powered by emotions and desire into a visual symbol. That’s it.

The magic sigil is a visual representation of what we want to be manifested in the physical world, in our reality.

It is the first physicals bridge, the first action in the materialization of our desire.

You follow me?

Let’s dive into the second question

Is it hard, is it easy?

It is exactly how you define it to be.

It is hard do design a magic sigil? Is it easy?
To be frank it is relevant only if you want to experience any of these aspects.

Yes it is very hard if you feel that you need to put a lot of effort, to invest a lot of energy, belief, focus, rituals, pain, struggle and sacrifice… to give you the sense of “look how hard I worked for this, it must of work as intended, I did so much and I have invested so much into this, it is impossible to fail… all by the book and go even that extra mile so it must work…

Well, I can guarantee with 100% accuracy the rate of success or unsuccess based on what you believe and your state of being and not how much of an effort you put in… why? Because actions are powerful but not when done from the wrong energy state.

I don’t do a sigil for abundance and financial stability because I am afraid of being poor… the manifestation of this sigil in this particular example will be the awareness that I don’t have the money, the abundance, the financial stability to make me feel good, therefore, more disapointment generated by my own action even if my will was to experience abundance… what I experience? Fear of not having what I desire, lack of not having money, abundance, financial stability… why? Because the “place” from which I constructed my magic sigil was of “lack of…” fear, a very strong emotion.

So, once again, is it hard, is it easy to design a sigil?

The mechanics behind are complex if we try to understand each aspect but do we have to? Do we really need to know how an idea, a thought, a desire can be manifested into physical reality into material dense world in which we currently reside?

As I’ve said… Knowing is “this is happening” and is powerful, Knowledge is the math behind but also the stone which we stumble upon because if we really want to dive deep into how things work, we tend to form a linear path which, for us makes sense because it is based on logic on “this is how this must happen” but what we do is not allowing any other methods, any other paths which we don’t know yet to manifest the outcome we desire…

In other words, we unknowingly reject all other “miracles”, all other potential paths through which our mind had not thought of and accept only one path, the one we were used with, the path we understand.
Sometimes, in fact most of the times the path we understand, the path which has logic, sense is the hardest path through which magic can manifest.
Why? Because we are limiting and impose that particular path rejecting all the other resources.

Using logic means less trust in unknown possibilities (miracles), less trust in potentiality… and magic is exactly that… a field of potentiality we could tap into and bring shapes and forms into our physical reality.

Is it hard, is it easy? Is it exactly how you want to define it.
Read my bold response again… and again.
Why? Because it reads this: “you are the one, or at least YOU SHOULD BE, the one who defines how magic works for you”… not old books filled with knowledge and experience of other individuals which translated their own fears, their own contemporary events and knowledge into their (NOW) obsolete experiences.

What I want to say by that? Is simple, use the foundation of those experiences from books, writings, scripts and old documents, use that history to give you a base, an introduction but don’t rely on them word for word, symbolistically speaking, because we evolved, we changed, our comprehension changed, enlarged, transformed.

Let me give you an example. Classic Tarot cards, each key from the Major Arcana are representative to an archetype but the symbols used are outdated like the Emperor for example… today would be associated with President, the Magician can be representative to a scientist from this day…. so on..
And their archetypal ranges also changed because it is attributes, aspects and actions from an old symbol for the archetype have evolved to the new symbol archetype.

I know you are not happy with the response because most individuals usually see magic as a “magical pill” which solves all their issues, problems and fears… Most individuals define magic as relation, an interaction, a connection with nature, spirits, objects, things, demons and angels to obey one’s desire.
And is nothing wrong with that old system, it offers the option to externalise your energy, your power into a 3rd party point of focus rather than self empowerment.
It is ok, one could choose this option, a valid one if the belief is strong enough and focused enough to give, to generate desired results and not only the wishful thinking. At some point in our human history we didn’t understand the concept of air, we could not see it so it was not existing, air was a theory in our awareness.

Anyway, enough with that perspective… I should answer to the 3rd question…

Does designing sigils require training?

Yes and No.
Yes because a sigil is channeled from our state and we need to exercise that state as much as possible so it could become a pattern, a pattern means a behavior, a behavior implies more than what we do, behavior also means a way of thinking, a mentality, a mindset.
What does a mindset has to do with magic?
All! A mindset means new connections forged by neurons which translates in neuroplasticity, what neuroplasticity is used for? Programming our thought patterns which in result generate the behavior and manifestation of our behaviors generate consequences which translate in specific perceptions which generates our physical reality.
To cut short all this, mens we create our reality.

So yes, it does require training because the more we repeat a pattern, the more we refine it and sometimes we modify it in order to better fit our needs.

Through the refined pattern we are generating the experience we need to build more trust, more belief in what we do in what we know and belief to be true for ourselves. And that is how exploration of a subject is helping us evolve. Training, repetition, refining, exploration… tools to use to diversify our experience.

Do you feel that I owe you an response for the “No” statement?
No! there’s no need for training or repetition if you are using the Knowing tool. Unless you focus more on the visual aspect of it… visually appealing.
As a reminder, Know is the energy which doesn’t require any other aspects to enforce it like knowledge, trust, belief. Knowing is the closest to Fact because “I know” does leave place for interpretation, doubt or versioning.
“I Know” is a fact. But again, has negative aspects too because what we believe to know might be limited to our human experience no matter how extended that experience is so “I know” is based on the reality or imaginary state I reside in and limited to the reality I project so my “I know” might not be the same as your “I know” therefore “I know” is not a general Fact.

Sometimes my Know with your Know might coincide and we might pick up the or generate same channeled state but most of the times Know is an individual state representative to each individual just like perspectives are.

Enough with that… let’s move on… 4th question is kind of interacting with 3rd answer but let’s dive into this one too… spoiler alert… things get complicated.

Does this practice need a foundation, a belief system?

Again Yes and No!

Yes because you need to want (the Will) to do something and the act of doing is the powered by the engine which drives any belief (system or not). In other words, you first Will it and after that you choose to do something (or not) about it (the action).

In terms of actual belief system as foundation yes, you can use any library available in human consciousness…
What is a library in human consciousness?
It is a totality of informations, materials and energies one can tap into in order to use it and adapt that element to support a certain idea, build, empower or refine a belief or more complex constructs.

No. We can use our own definitions and libraries which can help us build the necessary framework for our practice. Is what we call and define as innovative, inventions, applied theories.

The tool used for self-created libraries are 30% knowledge and logic and 70% imagination and intuition.

So here you go, one can intuitively channel a magic sigil to the use of compressed knowledge from existing library or one can develop a personal system based on creativity and intuition.

The second one, to be effective is based on a strong mindset, practitioner’s self-trust is a must and of course, creative imagination.

Bonus question, how do you believe that old sigils made up of shapes and forms were “developed”? Through demonic or divine intervention?
If you don’t have an answer right now let me tell you that a few techniques were based on physical manifestations and human interpretation of those manifestation like a “ritual invocation of the hidden names” where after a rigorous ritual one would sacrifice the blood of let’s say an animal and boiling down with some herbs until it was thicken enough to bubble up and when time was right a question was asked and bubbles which reached the surface were part of the answer, the foam when boiling was interpreted as an answer…. much like more recent readings in coffee or tea leaves.

I don’t want to invalidate the other methods of creating sigils or seals.
A small note here, seals are different form sigils.

  1. Seals:
    • Seals are symbols or diagrams, often with intricate designs, used in ceremonial magic and ritual work. They are typically associated with specific entities, such as angels, demons, spirits, or deities.
    • These symbols act as a kind of signature or representation of a particular being or force. They are believed to contain and channel the energy or power associated with the entity they represent.
    • Seals are used for various magical operations, such as invoking or evoking spirits, providing protection, or amplifying one’s intent during rituals. They can be drawn on parchment, engraved on talismans, or incorporated into magical tools.
  2. Sigils:
    • Sigils are abstract symbols created through a process of combining, rearranging, or distilling letters, words, or phrases into a unique design. They are a visual representation of an intention, desire, or specific goal.
    • The creation of sigils often involves a method of condensing a statement of intent or desire into a visual symbol by removing vowels, repeating letters, and rearranging the remaining letters into a unique design.
    • Sigils are charged with intent and used in various magical practices, including manifestation, spellwork, and personal empowerment. Activating or charging a sigil typically involves focusing energy or intent into the symbol to manifest the desired outcome.

While both seals and sigils are used in magic and occult practices as symbolic tools, seals are more closely associated with specific entities and their energies, often used in ceremonial magic.
Sigils, on the other hand, are personalized symbols representing intentions or desires, used in various magical workings for manifesting specific outcomes or goals.

So… does all this aspects answer the question? No it doesn’t by the look on your face.
Why? Because you are not sure what to choose.
You are presented with the option to start your path by creating from your energy which requires a lot of trust and you will need some sort of external validation or from the energy of collective library?

Most of you incline for the second choice. It is a path which others walked through and offers a sense of comfort and stability. It is ok, follow the path you feel you need to walk but remember that both paths are valid and you can either choose a path, choose a path and change your mind after a while or combine both paths to create a new one for yourself.

Strict path. Traditional magic practitioners are more conservative and for them there is “the old way is the only way” .
Some ancient entities set up the rules which are followed until today.

Flexible path. Chaos Magic practitioners kind of combine both paths into a new framework “magic to serve the needs” .
Some knowledge is bend and interpreted as one see fit to serve the purpose.

Your path. Why not?! You don’t really need an audience to let magic manifest in your life. This path is the Architect path and empowers the idea of magic which resides from within and manifests into outside, “the source of magic is within”
I create my own rules to serve me and not me to serve the rules.

The last question? Should I dive into this aspect? For me, the entire material is a meditative state process and I sort the inbox and take the questions which are more relevant and I meditate on each one like this, just like I do right now, finding or even imagine answers which have some sort of sense and logic. Why? Because I am aware that I don’t live in La La Land, I am aware that the reality in which I agreed to experience my life is bound by a set of rules, laws and limitations and I love all these limitations because once I am aware of their manifestation I understand how powerful I am when bending the law which governs them.
No need to read twice, it is ok if it sounds like bulshit for some, deeper meaning to others.

If you feel you are ready for the next step become the First Circle Architect .
Don't rush things, take your time.

So, the last question:

Where to start?

The choice
I can follow the idea of a flexible concept when doing sigil construction and I have many options to choose from, many styles to explore, options to add, use, develop and integrate more creativity into my work or opt and align myself with a more conservative approach, a more traditional path.

The Source, The Framework, The Library
All 3 define the same “thing”. I could use the traditional library provided by traditional “old ways” of sigil magic work with obvious limitations. Adapt those concepts and expand those limitations to serve my needs.

Or come up with my own library.

What do I understand as traditional library?
All existing systems and symbols already used in traditional and classic sigil construction like symbols from alchemy, astrology, rune symbols, cultural symbols like veves, or even more closer to christian symbols like crosses and other type of symbols… All these are components of eclectic library with various sources and traditions.

My library?
Can contain ideas, concepts, developments I consider to be helpful.
A simple symbol like a circle and 3 lines in the center to be representative to a certain definition like a letter or a full developed concept.

Or the idea of I (as I am, me) as a symbol as a glyph empower the idea Self when doing sigils which require the removal of vowels.
It is up to me, I am the Architect.
